Brixton Beach

Brixton Beach

by Hannah Phillips

Hit the beach in the tropical climates of South London this summer, as Brixton launches its new neon beach rooftop pop-up.

Located on Pope’s Road, Brixton Beach Boulevard is all about ‘80s Miami vibes as it ‘winds back the clock and turns up the heat’ for fourteen weeks of daytime and evening frolics. We’re talking beach huts, VIP rooms with hair salon and sleazy motel room themes and all the glitz and glamour of Miami circa ‘82 – we were even greeted by a police officer and Miami Vice lookalike on arrival.

When you don’t find yourself face-to-face with characters in tropical-print shirts or white tuxedos though, there’s plenty to keep the party going with DJ sets, film screenings and live sports broadcasts all lined up throughout the summer. Split into two sections, you can sit back in a deckchair, cocktail in hand on The Beach, before heading ‘Downtown’ to continue the party into the night – beneath a ceiling embellished with Slinkies, as you do.

And because no London pop-up is complete without a selection of the finest street food vendors at hand, on offer is everything from Lucky Pierre’s frites and treats to The Other Side Fried’s buttermilk chicken buns and creative dishes from Miami Bass’ trained chefs. We also recommend a stop at Nanny Bills for a fish finger sandwich – topped with one of their signature croquettes – and a Belgian chocolate milkshake.

Open until 28th August, we don’t know why you’d want to leave the city for the summer anyway. Plus, we hear Loose Women are looking to film there. Well, if it’s good enough for Coleen and co…
